The Sierra Leone Cancer Charity (SLCC) was set up in memory of Verna Iscandari-Johnson who fought a courageous battle against breast cancer. During this battle, Verna was resolute in her strength and altruism and it was in keeping with her altruistic nature that the Verna Iscandari-Johnson Initiative (VIJI) was set up to provide cancer diagnosis, treatment and palliative care to hundreds of sufferers from disadvantaged communities in Sierra Leone, who will die without this support.

Verna passed away on 28th September 2005 but her legacy lives on.
